Networking and Funding for Innovators

In case there are any entrepreneurs and innovators reading this blog, I wanted to pass along some news about networking and funding opportunities:

Innovation Search – up to $50,000 Award

SpringBOARD Innovation Centre in Barrie is conducting a “Live Business Pitch” Competition open to any innovative entrepreneurs in Simcoe County. They are particularly interested in presentations from green technology innovators. Companies must apply to qualify. Those chosen to compete will have 12 minutes to pitch their business concept followed by questions from a judging panel.  The winner will receive office space, mentoring and business development support and up to $30,000 in financing. The next Pitch event is on March 1 at Georgian College. Applications are accepted up to February 23.

Corporate Green Transition Funding – Zero Percent Loans

Nottawasaga Futures is offering zero percent loans to encourage established South Simcoe businesses (including agri-businesses) to invest in green transition activities. “Examples of green transition may include lean and green audits, waste reduction, heat recovery, development of supply chain networks, retooling and engineering but not limited to these examples.”

South Simcoe Green Enterprise Directory

A new online resource, the Green Economy Transition project sponsored by Nottawasaga Futures is compiling a directory of local ‘green’ suppliers operating in South Simcoe.  Businesses may be added to the list by submitting business information to greentransition@nottawasaga.com.

Green Connections Network

Green Connections is a local networking and mentorship group that holds regular meetings in South Simcoe and Bradford-West Gwillimbury. Their web site also includes a member directory. A future meeting is planned to be held in Innisfil and may be of interest to local businesses.
