Simcoe County is proceeding with a plan to widen Innisfil Beach Road (County Rd 21) from 2 lanes to 4 lanes over a distance of 11 kilometres. It would extend from Highway 27 (County Rd. 27) at Thornton to the 20th Sideroad (County Rd 39) at Alcona.
A public information meeting is being held at the Innisfil Town Hall on Tuesday, May 13 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Residents will be able to review the proposed “design concept alternatives” and provide their comments and opinions on the project.
The project includes widening and resurfacing the road, correcting storm drainage, replacing aged culverts, and improving illumination. A pedestrian path is also planned for the south side between Yonge Street (County Rd. 4) and the 20th Sideroad (County Rd. 39).
Reconstruction of the intersection at Innisfil Beach Road and 5 Sideroad is expected in 2015, followed by Innisfil Beach Road and Yonge Street in 2016.
Innisfil Beach Road would be widened to four lanes west of 20th Sideroad in 2017, provided that intersection reconstruction around two roads and the GO train tracks can be worked out in consultation with rail operator, Metrolinx.
