Now that the warm weather is finally with us, the weekends fill up fast with community events that make Innisfil a fun and neighbourly place to be. This weekend (May 31) the Plant, Tailgate, Bake Sale and BBQ, sponsored by the Gilford and District Horticultural Society (GDHS) takes place at the South Innisfil Arboretum. (1474 Shore Acres Drive and the 20th Sideroad in Gilford)
This fundraiser is an opportunity to support our local garden club by buying some plants donated by GDHS members from their own gardens. I’m one of those people who think that you can never have too many plants (The floral photos used as headers on my blog are mostly from my garden). And you’ll know that these plants are hardy for our local climate. You never know what you’ll find but you can usually get old favourites and a bit of everything from ground cover to shrubs. Residents that are new to Innisfil can discover the Arboretum, and chat with volunteer members about your garden plans – low maintenance, drought tolerant, sunny lawn or shady corner.
It’s also part community ‘garage sale’, craft and bake sale. Coffee, cold drinks, peameal bacon on a bun and sausages are available at the BBQ. The sale is held from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Need some more plants? Then you can head over to the Painswick Horticultural Society Plant (and Bake!) Sale, also on Saturday, May 31. It takes place in Stroud, in the Foodland parking lot, 8056 Yonge St. from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Get inspired, get dirty, get growing. See you there?
